Pebble Watch

I recently purchased a Pebble watch. It tells the time really well, which is quite exciting for someone who hasn’t owned a watch for around 8 years.

It does of course do a bunch other really useful stuff. In particular, it talks bluetooth to my mobile phone, which lets it display text messages, emails and incoming call notifications.

These notifications are surprisingly useful, particularly when cycling or driving, as it saves me from fumbling in pockets while otherwise occupied.

The pebble is also highly programmable. It comes with a development SDK which lets you write custom watch faces as well as full blown applications.

Party time

Last night I wrote my first watch face.

The whole process from start to finish was surprisingly painful (once I read the instructions correctly). I’m looking forward to writing some slightly more interesting watch faces and apps in the future.
